In the field of research he has focused on musical theatre and Slovak operatic composition.

He is the author of two separate books, entitled Ján Cikker: Vzkriesenie. Genéza, osudy a interpretácia operného diela (Ján Cikker: Resurrection. Genesis, Fates and Performance of His Operatic Work, 2000) and Opera na rozhraní. Pohľady na vývoj hudobného divadla v období moderny (Opera at the Frontier. Views of the Development of Musical Theatre in the Period of Modernity, 2004).

He has also authored entries for lexica and encyclopaedias: The New Grove Dictionary of Music and Musicians, Die Musik in Geschichte und Gegenwart, Pipers Enzyklopädie des Musiktheaters, Knaurs Großer Opernführer, Lexikon der Oper (Komponisten – Werke – Interpreten – Sachbegriffe), 100 slovenských skladateľov (100 Slovak Composers), plus publicistic contributions for magazines, radio and the bulletins of the Slovak National Theatre.

He is a member of a number of professional commissions, editorial boards and councils (from 2000 a member of the grant commissions at the Slovak Ministry of Culture, from 2004 of the journal acta.musicologica.cz, from 2007 of Hudobný život, from 2008 of Studia musicologica, Brno. From 2012 he has been a member of the Academic Council of the Music Museum, etc.).
