Ivan Buffa attended international compositional courses in Český Krumlov, CZ (H. Oehring, L. Toressen, M. Kopelent), Reichenau, AT (Gy. Fekete) and interpretation courses in Vienna, AT (Gy. Kurtág) and Walderbach, DE (E. Nesterenko).
As a composer and interpret he took part in many concerts and festivals in Slovakia and abroad (Melos-Ethos, New Slovak Music, Orpheus, Convergences, Evenings of New Music, Festival of Contemporary Art in Košice, Prague Spring, Wiener Tage der zeitgenössischen Klaviermusik, Concerts of the Austrian Company for Contemporary Music, Ost-West Podium in Kassel, Aspekte Salzburg u.a.).
