The orchestra soon after its establishment in 1981 ranked among the leading domestic and European chamber ensembles. For its artistic activities and regular enrichment of the musical life in the Slovak capital, Bratislava City Council appointed it in 1991 as the chamber orchestra of Bratislava City. The ensemble regularly collaborates with renowned conductors and soloists and actively participates in domestic and foreign concert events. One of its annual domestic events is a memorial concert “Hommage a Lucia Popp” as a tribute to one of the most important artistic figures of the opera world. The orchestra has performed in nearly all European states, but also in USA, Canada, Israel, Egypt, Japan, Korea, Turkey, China, Macau, Hong Kong and New Zealand. The orchestra records for various music publishers, received two platinum CDs, and for its recording of the symphonies of Ignaz Pleyel in 2000 it was awarded by the Music Magazine of BBC, included among the 60 best recordings of the year.
