Haimoni Balgavá: Botanikör for String Orchestra
Barbora Tomášková: Larsen C for String Orchestra and Sound Object
Adrián Demoč: Popínavá hudba for Orchestra
Martina Kachlová: Bratislavské mosty (Bratislava Bridges) for Orchestra
Lenka Novosedlíková: Concerto for Marimba, Cimbalom, and Orchestra
On the program of the Slovak Radio Symphony Orchestra concert--featuring, with the sole exception of Adrián Demoč, works by four female composers--audiences will encounter an engaging confrontation not only of compositional poetics but also of approaches to different media. Haimoni Balgavá and Barbora Tomášková offer two distinct treatments of string textures, with the latter additionally incorporating electronics. The other two composers venture enthusiastically to the very edges of what is commonly labeled as "classical music," though each from a different direction. In her orchestral suite, Martina Kachlová pays tribute to five of Bratislava's bridges, while Lenka Novosedlíková channels the vibrant energy of her compositional voice into dialogues between an unconventional pair of solo instruments--marimba and cimbalom--and the orchestra. All this under the baton of Pavel Šnajdr, conductor of the Brno Contemporary Orchestra.
