Piano Variations on a Slovak Folk Song (1974) have been dedicated to the composer´s wife. Their main theme is the well-known Slovak folk tune The Water Runs. The composition consists of seven variations which are a sort of living commentary on a basic material presented at the very beginning. The individual variations link with one another and create the inseparable music whole. Apart from the briliant use of instruments the composer makes use of many onomatopoeic elements which give the work poetic tenderness and intensify its typical Slovak character.
