The work forms a group of twelve compositions originally intended as a study of chamber playing in a string quartet. It is the composer’s 57th creation, and reflects his knowledge of the regional folk music styles in Slovakia, while retaining the educational aim of making quartet performances accessible to young musicians. But the piece also became a popular concert piece and was often interpreted on the stage. Some of the movements (the 1st, 3rd and 4th) were composed especially for this cycle, whereas others were transcriptions of various successful compositions he had written for artistic folk groups (such as Lúčnica and SĽUK). The series has an internal development and forms a cyclic entire whose culmination is the „Treščák“ (an East-Slovak dance) from successful compositional and choreographic picture ˮJarná voda“ (Spring Water). With a selection of arrangements from his large oeuvre, the composer himself indicated his hierarchy of sources of inspiration from traditional Slovak folk culture.

\n (Ladislav Burlas, in: booklet of the CD \"Alexander Moyzes, Mikuláš Moyzes – String Quartets\", Opus 1996, 912569-2)
\n
\n
\n            Movements:
\n\n                Úvodom\n                \n
\n\n                Prekáračky\n                \n
\n\n                Melódia\n                \n
\n\n                Hry\n                \n
\n\n                Omilienci chodia\n                \n
\n\n                Červené jabĺčko\n                \n
\n\n                Žatevná\n                \n
\n\n                Valaské rondo\n                \n
\n\n                Pred muzikou\n                \n
\n\n                Karička\n                \n
\n\n                Intermezzo\n                \n
\n\n                Treščak\n                \n
\n
\n\n        \n
\n"}
