When most people think of the word 'concert' in classical music, they think of a soloist accompanied by an orchestra. But what if the entire orchestra performed as a soloist? This idea was dealt with by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart in the times of classicism, who places four wind players in the foreground. The idea was fully developed in the 20th century by Béla Bartók, who premiered his Concerto for Orchestra in Boston in 1944. Soloists are successively individual sections of the orchestra.
For two decades, Kaspar Zehnder led the Murten Classic Summer Festival, but we can also know him as the former chief conductor of The PKF -- Prague Philharmonia and he is also a regular guest of our concert seasons. The first four players of the Slovak Philharmonic Orchestra will perform as soloists at the concert.
