Andrea Vizvári

The soprano Andrea Vizvári studied opera performance under Dagmar Bezačinská-Podkamenská at the State Conservatory and the Academy of Performing Arts, both in Bratislava. Her achievements include being selected for a three-month training course at the Detmold Theatre in Germany and master classes by Sonja Ghazarian, Peter Dvorský and Zlatica Livorová. She also achieved success at several national and international vocal competitions, such as the 2002 Imrich Godin International Vocal Competition 1st Prize and Audience Award), the 2003 Competition of Slovak Conservatories in Bratislava (1st Prize), the 2004 Mikuláš Schneider-Trnavský International Vocal Competition (2nd Prize, the Leipzig Opera Artistic Director’s Award, the Canadian Lyrical Theater President’s Award, Music Centre Slovakia Award), the 2005 Antonín Dvořák International Competition (winner), the 2006 International Interpretation Courses by the Sommerakademie Prag – Wien – Budapest (Award for Best Interpretation), the 2010 Hudobný život Award (Artistic Discovery of the Year) for the role of Elvira in Bellini’s I Puritani. Ms. Vizvári has given highly successful concerts at Carnegie Hall in New York, the Musikverein in Vienna, the National Concert Hall in Dublin, and a gala concert at the Lyric Opera in Montréal. As well as concert tours in Ireland, The Netherlands, United States, Hungary and Poland, she has also appered in Slovakia with the Slovak Sinfonietta Žilina (open-air concerts in Trenčín), and with the Slovak Philharmonic (Mozart’s Requiem and Schubert’s Mass in G Major). Her other artistic activities include performances with the Prague Philharmonia at the Janáček Festival in Ostrava (Martinů’s Kytice), with the State Philharmonic Košice (Mozart’s Requiem), and with the Musica Aeterna ensemble (a concert performance of the opera La serva padrona). At the Bratislava Music Festival in October 2012, Andrea Vizvári sang the soprano role in the performance of Orff’s Trionfo di Afrodite, conducted by Alexander Rahbari. That same year, at the Autumn Festival 2012 in Banská Bystrica, she sang in Requiem by Andrew Lloyd Webber. Ms. Vizvári’s début in the Slovak National Theatre took place in 2006 when she sang the Ice Princess, a coloratura role in the Slovak children’s opera Martin a slnko (Martin and the Sun) by Tibor Frešo. In the same year she also performed as the Queen of the Night at Vienna’s Volksoper, where she returned the following season. She made frequent guest performances in Slovakia as Najade in Strauss’ Ariadne auf Naxos, which she also sang in Miskolc and Prague with the Slovak National Theatre. In 2009, Andrea Vizvári appeared at the Leipzig Opera in a guest performance as the Queen of the Night. Since the 2009/10 season, Andrea Vizvári is a full-time soloist with the Slovak National Theatre. Her roles include Violetta (La traviata), Elvira (I Puritani), Gilda (Rigoletto), Zerlina (Don Giovanni), Karolka (Jenůfa), Adela (Die Fledermaus), and Servilia (La clemenza di Tito). In 2011, she became a permanent guest at the Janáček Theatre in Brno, where she sang Violetta (La traviata) and Titania in Britten’s A Midsummer Nights Dream.

In May 2013, Ms. Vizvári became the overall winner at the International Competition “Trofeo la Fenice” in Lucca, Italy, where she also received the Audience Award. Her other achievements include performing at the Regensburg Summer Festival in 2013, at the Thurn und Taxis castle, where she made a guest appearance as Violetta. On the occasion of the state visit of the president of the Slovak Republic to Denmark and the Netherlands, Andrea Vizvári gave concerts with the pianist Marián Lapšanský. The concerts were dedicated to the queens of Denmark and the Netherlands and their families.
