The concert titled Dawn of the Clarinet’s New Era offers a rich palette of works reflecting the evolution of the clarinet’s sound and technical capabilities in the second half of the 19th century. The program includes compositions by great figures of German and French music (Schumann, Saint-Saëns) as well as lesser-known composers whose works are only occasionally performed (Magnier, Jeanjean, Gade). In addition to chamber fantasies, sonatas, and solo pieces for clarinet and piano, the concert will also feature Solo de Concours by Henri Rabaud, a technically demanding piece for clarinet and piano originally composed for students of the Paris Conservatory. These unique works, which represent the clarinet’s development at the dawn of its modern form, will be performed by renowned soloists on period instruments. Clarinetist Róbert Šebesta will present instruments by the prestigious Parisian brand Buffet Crampon, while pianist Ladislav Fančovič will showcase his artistry on a German Bechstein piano.
