The main focus of Dušan Martinček’s work was piano music; however, he was equally at ease in other areas. He masterfully blended echoes of bygone eras with contemporary compositional systems and techniques, as exemplified by his Passacaglia. Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart is one of the chosen figures in music history. In many genres, he reached the pinnacle of composition, while in others he remained closer to the “ground,” drawing inspiration from the stylistic poetics of his time. His violin concertos belong more to the latter category, yet they offer abundant inspiration and opportunities for virtuosic performance. The A major concerto is guided by the Apollonian muse and captivates even in its final section with Turkish motifs. Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy was also a child prodigy, presenting remarkable compositions already at the age of eleven. He traveled widely and often, always bringing back compelling impulses from his journeys; he was particularly enchanted by Scotland with its mystical beauty. His Third Symphony is a result of the composer’s enthusiasm.
