Her talents became evident at competitions, in which she participated as a Conservatory student; she started accepting engagements as part of the Slovak Philharmonic's Musica aeterna ensemble in 1987. She was the first female Slovak flautist to concentrate upon the baroque flute. The young musician's orientation was rewarded by a visit to Paris, and subsequent studies there. She has performed as a soloist with the Musica aeterna at baroque concerts, and at chamber performances of international and Slovak works, including some dating back to classicism.

Bernášková has worked with renowned musicians when playing ancient music, and many of her performances have been recorded on CD.

She currently lives in Roztoky u Prahy (Czech Republic), and in addition to her educational activities (as a teacher at the Teplice Conservatory), she also works with ensembles involved in ancient music there.
