In his research he has focused on the history of Slovak music, musical sociology, and musical culture. He has engaged in reflection on Slovak musical composition, Slovak musicology, Slovak musical institutions and the social function of Slovak musical culture.

He is the author of articles, studies, works on the older history of Slovak and Slavic music, musical sociology, co-author of Dejiny slovenskej hudby (A History of Slovak Music, 1957), translation of professional literature on music.

Ladislav Mokrý has actively intervened in the development of musical and concert life in Slovakia. He was present at the birth of the international festival Bratislava Musical Festival, where for many years he was vice-president and later president of the festival committee; he has held several functions in musical societies, institutions, colleges and councils. During the period of the Iron Curtain he helped in the development of international relationships and artistic exchange.
