Štefan Kocán, bass, who has performed on opera stages all over the world.
After completing his studies, he joined the opera company of the Landestheater in Linz, where he performed a number of bass roles. His debut on the stage of the Vienna State Opera was followed by performances in opera houses in cities such as Basel, London, Barcelona, Copenhagen, Antwerp, Nice, Paris, as well as New York, Chicago, Los Angels, Chile, Tokyo and many others. He has also sung in several Italian and German opera houses (Modena, Milano, Essen, Kassel, Hannover, Berlin, Munich) and also in Prague and Bratislava.
He has performed at festivals such as Prague Spring, Bratislava Music Festival, Central European Festival of Concert Art in Žilina, etc.
He is regularly engaged in concert activity by performing in vocal-instrumental works, but also in the form of chamber concerts with piano accompaniment. In 2020 he performed Robert Schumann's song cycle Básnikova láska / The Poet's Love and a selection of Franz Schubert's songs in the Concert Hall of the Slovak Philharmonic with the piano accompaniment of Marian Lapšanský.
He is the recipient of the Slovak Minister of Culture Award for 2014 and the Crystal Wing Award for 2015.
He is currently a teacher of opera singing at the Faculty of Performing Arts of the Academy of Arts in Banská Bystrica.
