Pavol Bohdan Zápotočný is among the emerging young Slovak pianists. He began his musical development at an early age, attending the Elementary School of Arts in Martin from the age of four. Under the pedagogical guidance of Karla Kočalková, he achieved numerous notable successes in regional, national, and international competitions.
Among his most significant achievements is First Prize at the international competition Piano Talents for Europe in Dolný Kubín. Since 2019, he studied at the Conservatory in Žilina in the class of Darina Švárna. In 2023, he was admitted to the Academy of Arts in Banská Bystrica, where he currently studies piano in the class of Marián Lapšanský. In the same year, he was awarded First Prize at the international festival Intercomp in Banská Bystrica.
As part of the Allegretto Festival, he appeared at the Winners’ Concert of the Slovak Conservatory Students’ Competition (2022). In collaboration with leading Slovak pianist Matej Arendárik, he performed at the Piano Days festival (2025). In 2025, he performed Mozart’s Piano Concerto in E-flat major No. 9 with the State Chamber Orchestra Žilina under the baton of conductor Rastislav Štúr.
He has further developed his artistic skills through masterclasses with distinguished pianists and pedagogues, including Pavel Gililov, Denis Kozhukhin, Timur Sergeyenia, Mark Shaviner, Zuzana Niederdorfer, Ivan Gajan, and Matej Arendárik.
