PhDr., Mgr. art. Júlia Bukovinská is a Slovak musicologist, music publicist, organizer of regional musical life, and educator. She studied piano performance at the Košice Conservatory under Ludmila Kojanová, music theory at the Faculty of Music of the Academy of Performing Arts (VŠMU), and earned her PhDr. degree (Doctor of Philosophy in Musicology) at the Faculty of Arts of Comenius University in Bratislava.
She worked at the Department of Music Education at the Faculty of Education in Prešov and since 1991 has been teaching music history, aesthetics, and diploma seminars at the Košice Conservatory. She developed study scripts for the course Music History, which later became the basis for the Malá encyklopédia hudby I-IV (Small Encyclopedia of Music I-IV, 1999–2002).
She is a member of the Slovak Music Union, the Slovak Journalists’ Syndicate, and the Historical Society in Košice. She organizes the contemporary art festival Ars Nova Cassoviae, is co-founder and administrator of the Hemerkovci Music Society, and co-founder and dramaturge of the festival Hudobné rezonancie (Musical Resonances). She is also a member of the festival committee for the Košice Music Spring and the International Organ Festival in Košice.
She has published over 300 professional articles and reviews in Hudobný život (Musical Life), Estetická výchova (Aesthetic Education), Národná obroda (National Renewal), and regional press. She is the author of encyclopedia entries, book reviews, and accompanying texts for bulletins. She founded the series Kapitoly z dejín hudobného života v Košiciach (Chapters from the History of Musical Life in Košice) and initiated the organization of musicological conferences in Košice (2004, 2006, 2008, 2011, 2013).
In 2006, she was awarded the Mayor of Košice’s Prize for her outstanding contribution to the cultural life of the city and her publishing activities related to the history of musical culture in Košice. In 2010, together with Jozef Podprocký, she received the Mayor of Košice’s Prize on behalf of the Hemerkovci Music Society for merits in researching musical history, promoting creative work, and the performing arts of Košice and the Eastern Slovak region.
