Suchoň Quintet was established in 1974 as a wind quintet, which before the foundation of the Sinfonietta Žilina acted at the Žilina Conservatory. It is the oldest chamber ensemble that works at the Slovak Sinfonietta Žilina.

During its 30 years of existence, it has held a number of concerts across Slovakia, radio recordings, concerts for children and youth, vernissages and others. It performed at home and abroad with Slovak Sinfonietta Žilina in compositions for wind quintet and string orchestra (e. g. Spomienky/Memories by J. Cikker, Serenade by Eugen Suchoň). It premiered the composition of Peter Fiala Concert for Wind Quintet and Chamber Orchestra, and Divertimento for Wind Quintet by Ľudovít Rajter.

It regularly performs within cycles of Slovak Sinfonietta and within Sunday Matinee for children and parents in Dom umenia Fatra in Žilina (House of Arts Fatra in Žilina). From 2003 the ensemble cooperates with the pianist Matej Arendárik. and it regularly performs in concerts in Mirbach Palace in Bratislava within Sunday Matinee.

In early 1998 it adopted the name of the founder of Slovak National Modernity – Eugen Suchoň, whose Serenade Op. 5 was one of the first works in the repertoire of the ensemble.
