This association of professional artists, which bears the name of the one of the most prestigious Slovak festival of contemporary music, was founded in 2005 to act as a residential group of the festival, and to perform contemporary domestic and foreign music at a high level. Like other European ensembles of this type (Asko Ensemble, Schoenberg Ensemble, Aleph Ensemble and others), the Melos Ethos Ensemble is characterized by a colorful, mostly solo instrumental setup, and also by its repertoire focused on composed music of the second half of the 20th century, especially avant-garde, respectively post avant-garde provenance (Berio, Ligeti, Xenakis, but to a considerable extent, music by Slovak composers).

Members of the ensemble outside of the festival period play in leading Slovak ensembles; Many of them are devoted to contemporary music systematically.

The ensemble was aided in its artistic formation by many known conductors specializing in contemporary music – Zsolt Nagy, Daniel Gazon and Marián Lejava.

The ensemble performed on prestigious foreign festivals of contemporary music – Warsaw Autumn (2006), Ostrava Days (2007), festival GAIDA in Lithuania (2007).
