Ensemble Thesaurus Musicum is an early music ensemble founded in 2015 in Žilina by musicologist and theorba player Michal Hottmar, PhD, who also serves as its artistic director and dramaturge. The ensemble specializes in the historically informed performance of chamber vocal and instrumental music from the 16th to 18th centuries, with a repertoire that includes works by Thomas Campion, John Dowland, Claudio Monteverdi, Tarquinio Merula, Jean-Baptiste Besard, Stefano Landi, Girolamo Frescobaldi, and others. A distinctive aspect of Ensemble Thesaurus Musicum's artistic mission is its emphasis on music originating from the territory of present-day Slovakia during this period. The ensemble’s members are committed to authenticity, performing on carefully crafted replicas of historical instruments.
