Ulijanky is a female vocal group from Nitra operating under the ÚMKTKE in Nitra. The group consists of former and current students of ethnology at the Faculty of Arts of Constantine the Philosopher University in Nitra.
The ensemble was founded in 2018 on the initiative of Margita Jágerová, who also serves as its artistic director. Initially, the group performed only at school concerts, but later appeared in an independent programme on Rádio Regina, where they also recorded their first tracks, and at folklore events in Kojšov, Očová, Kokava nad Rimavicou, as well as at the Spiš Folklore Festival.
The group’s repertoire is dramaturgically arranged by Margita Jágerová together with the members themselves, who enrich it with songs from their home regions. In this way, they present not only the regional but also the genre diversity of folk songs, including harvest songs, emigrant songs, humorous songs, love songs, ballads, ritual songs, and others. They place emphasis on authentic interpretation and mastery of distinctive local musical elements and stylistic features.
Since 2023, Ulijanky have been collaborating with Spectrum Quartett and Nogaband on the concert project Pictures from Slovakia (Obrázky zo Slovenska), from which a music album of the same name was released in 2026. As part of this project, the group has performed at the Horehronie Folklore Festival in Heľpa, the Folklore Festival Východná, the Pohoda Music Festival, the World Music Festival in Bratislava, the Haravara Festival in Banská Bystrica, and other events.
