The tradition of the choir dates back to 1921, when it performed under the name Academic Singing Association. A new chapter in the ensemble’s history began in 1977, when it adopted the name Academic Choir, which in 1990 was changed to Academic Choir TEMPUS, after the composition of the same name by composer and long-time conductor Peter Cón. Since 2015, the official name has been Spevácky zbor Tempus. The choir’s conductors have included Jozef Potočár, who stood at the choir’s founding and helped establish it among Slovakia’s leading choirs; Peter Cón, who led the choir for almost ten years; Robert Faltus, who collaborated with the choir for nearly a decade; Zuzana Žňavová, who led the choir for a period after 2005; and Katarína Krupová, who worked with the choir for two years. The current conductor is Juraj Chlpík, a long-time member of prominent Slovak choirs, who has led the ensemble since 2008. Conductors Marián Vach, Peter Hradil, Juraj Jartim, Pavol Bagin, Ján Miškovič, and Janka Rychlá also collaborated with the choir for certain periods. The vocal pedagogue Ladislav Gubka worked with the choir over the long term. The choir has received awards at both domestic and international competitions. It performs regularly mainly in Bratislava and its surrounding area and has also appeared at several performances abroad.
