The Košice Teachers’ Choir was founded in 1948 under the name Spevokol košických učiteľov (Košice Teachers’ Choral Society). It has used its present name since 1967 and is one of the longest continuously active choirs in Slovakia.
Its conductors have included Vojtech Adamec (1964–1972), Ondrej Lenárd (1972–1976), Karol Petróczi (1976–1988), and Róbert Stankovský (1988–1990). The choir has also collaborated with other conductors, including Peter Škvarenina, Šimon Marinčák, Marek Janko, and Ján Hrubovčák. The choir’s current conductor is Maroš Potokár.
The choir has represented Slovak choral music both at home and abroad and has received numerous awards at international competitions.
Its repertoire encompasses classical choral literature from the Renaissance to the present day, gospel music, arrangements of folk songs, and traditional music from various countries around the world. Among its notable performances have been the premiere presentations of the Christmas Mass by Edmund Pascha, Missa pastoralis by Václav Jan Kopřiva, and the Christmas Mass by Mikuláš Schneider-Trnavský.
The choir regularly collaborates with the State Philharmonic Košice, particularly in Christmas concerts. Within the framework of this cooperation, it has also performed Česká mše vánoční by Jan Jakub Ryba.
In 2009, the Košice Teachers’ Choir participated in the second European Festival of Teachers’ Choirs in Ostrów Wielkopolski, where it won third prize. In 2011 and 2017, it performed at the Toscana Music Festival in Italy. In 2015, the choir received a Gold Award at the Regional Competitive Festival of Choirs and subsequently earned a Silver Award Diploma at the National Competition and Festival of Choirs.
Between 2015 and 2019, it co-organized the Vojtech Adamec Choral Singing Festival.
In 2023, the choir celebrated the 75th anniversary of its founding with a gala concert at the House of Arts in Košice. Guest performers included the St. Michael Choir, tenor Jaroslav Dvorský, pianist Júlia Grejtáková, harpist Ivana Boggerová, organist Žofia Bendíková, and conductors Maroš Potokár and Róbert Kováč.
