Milo Suchomel Quartet

On this album, Milo Suchomel presents himself not only as a soloist, but also as a composer and bandleader. The jazz ensemble Milo Suchomel Quartet—comprising Milo Suchomel (saxophone), Tomáš Baroš (double bass), Klaudius Kováč (piano), and Marián Ševčík (drums)—was formed between 2002 and 2003. Among its greatest achievements are a place among the top four finalists at the Heillaart International Competition in Belgium and collaborations with leading Slovak and international jazz artists.

Suchomel has an unmistakable gift for melody and understands that even a jazz composition should, above all, possess the qualities of a song. The album may sound stylistically and instrumentally conservative, but never antiquated or museum-like. On the contrary, it reveals considerable artistic potential. (Marián Jaslovský)
