Fragmenty a úvahy

This publication of writings by Ivan Parík, inspired primarily by the efforts of his daughter Nora Gubková, consists of two distinct groups of texts. The first comprises the so-called “texts from the suitcase”, memoir-like notes intended as the basis for the author’s unfinished autobiography. Written on an old typewriter, these texts remained in draft form and were never revised, even by the author himself.

The second group consists of essays written for a variety of public and cultural occasions. Most of these texts were subsequently published in Slovak periodicals, where they underwent editorial revision. The editor’s task was to organize these diverse materials into a coherent whole—while acknowledging that the present arrangement is only one of several possible versions—and to eliminate inconsistencies resulting mainly from the fallibility of human memory.

The resulting volume offers a testimony to its time, documenting the development of Slovak musical culture, its ideals, and the obstacles encountered along the way. The publication is supplemented by biographical information illustrating Ivan Parík’s contribution to Slovak music, as well as a selection of rare electroacoustic compositions produced at the Bratislava Electroacoustic Studio.
