Ján Levoslav Bella’s Concert Piece in the Hungarian Style ranks among the most significant works of the composer’s output. It was composed in Sibiu in 1893 with the intention of being premiered in Budapest under the baton of Arthur Nikisch. The work is a monumental Hungarian rhapsody featuring an extended orchestral introduction followed by a brilliantly orchestrated Allegro. Together with the symphonic poem Fate and the Ideal, it represents one of the finest achievements of Bella’s orchestral music.
