Wenzel Kallusch (Václav Kaluš) was one of the leading musical figures in Bratislava during the period preceding the establishment of the city's Church Music Society. His compositional legacy is preserved in both Vienna and Bratislava. His Clarinet Variations on an Original Theme ranks among the earliest works of its kind, notable for assigning the solo role to a wind instrument—the clarinet.
