Complete works B:4 Overture to Opera Hermania in Venus's Cave

Among the orchestral works of Ján Levoslav Bella, the Overture to the Operetta Hermania im Venusberg is the only composition written in connection with a stage work. The operetta itself, or even its libretto, has not survived. Its history is closely linked to the activities of the Männergesangverein, later known as the Hermania Choral Society in Sibiu, which Bella joined shortly after his arrival there. In 1886, several members of the society collaborated on a humorous stage play entitled Hermania im Venusberg, for which Bella composed the overture.
