Alexander Albrecht (1885–1958) was one of the first composers of modern music in Slovakia (his work was unparalleled until the 1930s), being in effect the only continuously working Slovak composer until the 1940s whose work was also accepted abroad. The Sonata in F major (1905) dates back to his student days at the Ferenc Liszt Music Academy in Budapest, and it draws on the brahmsian late-Romantic piano writing and on the rich harmonic language of extended tonality.
