Bartók and Slovakia

The volume Bartók and Slovakia, published in the Sources series, explores the remarkable connections between Béla Bartók, one of the foremost composers of the twentieth century, and Slovakia. A graduate of a Bratislava grammar school, a collector of Slovak folk music, a frequent guest in the home of his friend Alexander Albrecht, a concert pianist, and a son returning to visit his mother, Bartók maintained numerous personal and artistic ties with Bratislava and Slovakia throughout his life.

The publication brings together essays by Slovak and international musicologists, composers, and historians, offering new perspectives on these relationships. The volume also includes a photographic appendix.
