The first orchestral work Ján Levoslav Bella composed after moving from Kremnica to Sibiu in Transylvania was Augusten-Walzer für Orchester.

The score presents one of Bella’s most substantial orchestral compositions. Spanning 473 measures, it is structured as an introductory section followed by a sequence of five connected waltzes and a concluding coda.

Bella composed his first orchestral work from the Sibiu period for the ball of the local Music Society, held on 1 February 1883, and dedicated it to his young wife.
