Béla Bartók

This monograph by the distinguished Hungarian musicologist Tibor Tallián is the first comprehensive study of the life and work of Béla Bartók to be published in Slovak. It examines the extraordinary composer, ethnomusicologist, teacher, and performer whose work profoundly shaped European music in the first half of the twentieth century.

Although the original Hungarian edition appeared in 1981, the Slovak translation is, in many respects, a new publication. While preserving the original concept and structure, the volume has been thoroughly updated to reflect the latest developments in Bartók scholarship.

In addition to extensive documentary appendices, revised and expanded specifically for the Slovak edition, the monograph is distinguished by Tallián’s approach of integrating numerous quotations from Bartók’s rich personal writings directly into the main text, making them an essential part of the narrative.
