Assoc. Prof. PaedDr. Janka Bednáriková, PhD. (née Bystričanová) is a Slovak musicologist, expert in liturgical music, and conductor. She completed her Master's degree in teaching general education subjects (Russian language – music education) at the Faculty of Education in Nitra, and subsequently continued her studies at the Pontifical Institute of Sacred Music in Rome (Pontificio Istituto di Musica Sacra), specializing in Gregorian chant. Her diploma thesis was titled Analisi liturgico-musicale degli uffici dei Ss. Adalberto e Martino nel ms. EC Lad 3 di Bratislava. She also completed external doctoral studies in the same field in Rome, with her final thesis Frammenti gregoriani in Slovacchia.
Almost her entire professional career has been associated with the Catholic University in Ružomberok. Since 2000, she has taught courses such as Gregorian Chant, Schola Cantorum, Instrumental Performance, Obligatory Piano, and Obligatory Instrument. Her research focuses on medieval music and Gregorian chant. For many years, she has cooperated with the Institute of Musicology of the Slovak Academy of Sciences (with PhDr. Eva Veselovská, PhD.) in the field of musical medieval studies and the processing of medieval notated monuments from the territory of Slovakia.
At the Faculty of Education of the Catholic University in Ružomberok, she has held several positions, such as Director of the Institute of Musical Arts, Science and Sacred Music, and Vice-Rector for Science, Art and Doctoral Studies. She currently works as an associate professor at the Department of Music.
Janka Bednáriková also leads the specialization in Gregorian chant at the nationwide Summer Course for Church Organists and Cantors (courses have been held since 2005). She is the founder, conductor, and artistic director of the vocal ensemble Schola Cantorum Rosenbergensis, based at the Faculty of Education of the Catholic University in Ružomberok. With this ensemble, she participates in public performances, liturgical celebrations, and concerts of sacred music.
