Prof. PhDr. Július Fujak, PhD. is a Slovak composer, multi-instrumentalist, music aesthetist and semiotician, publicist, university lecturer, and organizer of music events. He has long been recognized as a prominent figure in Slovak experimental music, combining artistic creation with theoretical research and pedagogical activity.

He studied Aesthetics and Musicology at the Faculty of Arts of Comenius University in Bratislava (1990) and later worked at the Faculty of Arts of Constantine the Philosopher University in Nitra, where he specialized in the scientific study of aesthetics and art theory, earning a doctorate and completing his habilitation.

He was part of the Nitra Semiotic School, where he met and collaborated with its leading figures, including František Miko, Marián Varga, Vladimír Merta, and Mikoláš Chadima.

Since the late 1980s, he has been active in the Slovak alternative and experimental music scene—he was involved with the alternative rock bands Teória odrazu and Otras and later founded the experimental ensemble tEóRia OtraSu.

He is the author of numerous music recordings and projects that explore the boundaries of improvisation, sound experimentation, and intermedia art. He closely collaborated with the record label Hevhetia (which ceased operations in 2025).

Alongside his artistic work, he is deeply engaged in music theory and music journalism. As a curator and organizer, he has contributed to concert series and festivals focused on unconventional music, primarily in Nitra, where he moved in 1996 (e.g., Hermovo ucho).

He has collaborated with many artists and ensembles from Slovakia, such as Žena s blchou, Braňo Jobus, Peter Katina, Jozef Lupták, and others, as well as with international performers, including Palinckx (NL/UK), Zloději Uší, J. B. Kladivo, Jana Lewitová, Jan Kavan, Zuzana Homolová, David Šubík (CZ), Jon Rose (AUS), Veryan Weston (UK), Franz Hautzinger (A), Zsolt Sörés (H), Ludivine Allegue (F), and others.

His projects have been presented at festivals and concerts across Europe and the USA, with some of his most valued international experiences including performances at Barbican in London, REDCAT Theatre in Los Angeles with The California EAR Unit, at the Academy of Music in Krakow, and in Studio Odeon in Brussels.

He is the recipient of several awards.
