Yevgeny Irshai is a composer of Russian origin living in Slovakia. He studied piano and composition in St. Petersburg at a specialized music school and at the Rimsky-Korsakov Conservatory, where he also furthered his piano education. For many years he worked as a piano and composition teacher in St. Petersburg, later moving his professional career to Slovakia. He worked as an répétiteur at the State Opera in Banská Bystrica and taught at the conservatory and at Matej Bel University. Since 2001, he has been teaching composition at the Academy of Performing Arts. He is a member of several composers' associations and was appointed professor in 2010.
