Mgr. Adriana Grešová-Sekelská, PhD. is a Slovak musicologist. She studied at the School of Applied Arts in Ružomberok and graduated in 2016 with a degree in musicology from the Department of Musicology, Faculty of Arts, Comenius University in Bratislava. Her final thesis was titled Dobové hymnologické predlohy Juraja Tranovského pri zostavovaní Cithary Sanctorum (1636) (Historical Hymnological Models of Juraj Tranovský in the Compilation of Cithara Sanctorum [1636], supervisor: Prof. PhDr. Marta Hulková, PhD.). She subsequently continued with doctoral studies, completing them with a dissertation on Juraj Tranovský a jeho význam vo vývoji duchovnej piesne v 17. storočí (Juraj Tranovský and His Significance in the Development of the Spiritual Song in the 17th Century).

In 2015, she won 2nd place in the student scientific competition in the field of musicology, organized by the Czech Society for Musicology.

 

Her research focuses primarily on the early history of church music in Slovakia, with a special emphasis on hymnological studies. She is a member of the international hymnological society Internationale Arbeitsgemeinschaft für Hymnologie and the Committee for Church Music and Hymnology of the Evangelical Church of the Augsburg Confession in Slovakia (ECAV). She has been extensively researching Juraj Tranovský’s hymnal Cithara Sanctorum (1636). In 2024, she published a monograph titled Juraj Tranovský. Duchovná pieseň v 17. storočí  (Juraj Tranovský: Spiritual Song in the 17th Century, Confessio Augustana, Ltd.).

 

She publishes in both Slovak and international journals and is a regular contributor to the monthly magazine for Slovak Lutherans, Cirkevné listy, where she writes the column “From Old Hymnals.” She also collaborates with international databases such as Répertoire International des Sources Musicales (RISM) and Répertoire International de Littérature Musicale (RILM).

 

From 2019 to 2022, she worked as the manager and dramaturge of the concert series Sunday Matinée at the Mirbach Palace. Since 2024, she has served as the regional representative of the international hymnological society Internationale Arbeitsgemeinschaft für Hymnologie (IAH) for Eastern Europe and the Baltic countries. In this role, she coordinates hymnological activities in Slovakia, the Czech Republic, Poland, Lithuania, Latvia, and Estonia.
