Ľubomír Chalupka belongs to the most outstanding personalities of Slovak musicology and music history of the 20th century. He was a pupil of the musicology school at the FFUK of the founder of modern Slovak musicology, prof. Jozef Kresánek. From 1973 he worked as a pedagogue at the Department of Musicology, FFUK, from 2001 as a university professor, after 2015 as an extern and supervisor of doctoral students. He was a guest lecturer at several university departments at home (Ružomberok, Nitra, Banská Bystrica) and abroad (Brno, Olomouc, Prague, Kraków, Vienna).
In his pedagogical and scientific practice, he concentrated on the issues of music theory, methodology of music science and especially on the development of Slovak musical culture and creation after 1918. The volume of his journalistic scientific outputs exceeds the number of 550. The highlight of his work concentration are three book monographs: Slovak musical avant-garde (2011), Paths to creative professionalism (2015) and Generational and stylistic confrontations (2018).
He was a member of several professional scientific organizations in Slovakia and abroad.
