PhDr. Ingeborg Šišková, CSc. is a Slovak musicologist, music publicist, editor, and university lecturer. Her research focused on the history of music—particularly the Classical period—as well as on the issues of music reception, nationality, and ideology in art.
Since 1963, she has been active as a reviewer, music critic, and popularizer of music through various means: conference contributions, radio programs, book reviews, and interviews with performers and composers. She regularly contributed to newspapers such as Ľud, Večerník, and Práca, and from 1971 also wrote for Hudobný život (Musical Life) and Literárny týždenník. Her focus was primarily on reviews of musical performances, while her broader publication work aimed to convey the meaning and significance of musical works to audiences through verbal commentary. She prepared music programs for Czechoslovak Radio in Bratislava and later collaborated with Rádio Elán.
Between 1977 and 1983, Šišková took part in evening concerts in cities across Slovakia, where she delivered spoken commentaries on the performances. This practice, together with her experience teaching the history of European music—from the High Baroque to the Classical period and 20th-century music (up to 1945)—led to her dissertation and several scholarly studies and books on musical Classicism, including Obraz vývoja hudobného klasicizmu v Európe až po osobnosť Ch. W. Glucka (The Development of Musical Classicism in Europe up to the Personality of C. W. Gluck, 1999) and Dejiny hudby IV. Klasicizmus (History of Music IV: Classicism, 2011).
As a teacher, she lectured at the Department of Music Education at the Faculty of Education of Comenius University, at the Department of Aesthetics and Art Sciences of the Faculty of Arts at Comenius University, and since 2008, she has also worked externally with the Academy of Performing Arts in Bratislava (VŠMU), providing expert assessments of doctoral dissertations.
In 2024, Ingeborg Šišková was awarded the Jozef Kresánek Prize, presented by the Music Fund, in recognition of her lifelong contribution to musical culture.
