In 1999, the ensemble Swingless Jazz Ensemble was founded at the Elementary Art School (ZUŠ) in Mojmírovce as a school jazz group.
In 2011, the orchestra received a Silver Band award at the International Music Festival in Česká Kamenice.
In 2012, it was awarded Special Gold in category A at the big band competition in Budapest.
In 2013, it became the overall winner of the jazz and minority genres competition Jazz START UP (1st edition).
During its 15-year existence, the orchestra operated under the Private Elementary Art School ARS Studio and currently functions under the Private Elementary Art School of Helena Madariová in Nitra. A total of 16 musicians and one vocalist ensure a full sound typical of ensembles from the first half of the 20th century. Led by Martin Štourač, the musicians perform not only traditional big band classics but also arrangements of Latin American music, as well as musical and even rock hits.
As they describe themselves: “Swingless is a student big band focused on swing music. The aim of founding the orchestra was to give young musicians the opportunity to study jazz as well, which is still a rare occurrence in Slovak education (at the level of elementary art schools, conservatories, and universities). Currently, the orchestra focuses on the repertoire of the Count Basie Orchestra, whose music we consider the foundation of big band playing.” (source: www.jazz.sk)
