Chamber ensemble Guitar Duo Jókaiová Hnat was founded in September 2011 by two Slovak guitarists, Darina Jókaiová (*1992) and Dávid Hnat (*1993).
Their shared views and interest in music were brought together by their first teacher, Miloš Slobodník, during chamber music lessons. They later developed their knowledge and skills through supplementary studies at the Conservatory in Bratislava under the guidance of Radka Krajčová.
As part of their concert activities, the young performers regularly appear on numerous stages both in Slovakia and abroad. In September 2016, they embarked on their first concert tour in China. During their career to date, they have had the opportunity to collaborate with the Technik Chamber Orchestra and to participate in various projects, including Schubert Fest and Leo Brouwer at the Slovak National Gallery.
Less than a year after their formation, they gave the premiere of Sonata for Two Guitars by Slovak composer Ľuboš Bernáth.
The guitar duo has received several awards at international performance competitions. Their most notable and recent success was winning first prize in Elche, Spain, in 2015.
Their repertoire encompasses music from various stylistic periods. It includes original works written for guitar duo as well as various transcriptions, some of which they arrange themselves. In 2015, they recorded their debut album.
Both guitarists also pursue solo performance, which they studied in the classes of distinguished teachers and artists. Darina Jókaiová studied at the Academy of Performing Arts in Bratislava with Martin Krajčo, while Dávid Hnat studied at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna in the class of Professor Alexander Swete.
