Matej Sloboda - conductor
Slovak composer and conductor. He studied composition at the Academy of Performing Arts in Bratislava (Ivan Buffa) and at the Kunstuniversität in Graz (Beat Furrer) and at the Universität für Musik und darstellende Kunst in Vienna (Detlev Müller-Siemens). He is active especially in the field of contemporary music. From neo-folklorist beginnings (String Quartet No. 1) his compositional thinking has recast itself in a strikingly expressive style (Orpheus I, Omicron I-IIIa, Bagatelles for Quartet). In 2012 he founded the chamber grouping EnsembleSpectrum, of which he is artistic director and dramaturge. His works were presented at South Korea ISCM World Music Days, Melos-Ethos, Orfeus, Asynchronie, Biela noc, etc. He collaborated with many prominent artists, such as Milan Paľa, Branislav Dugovič, Ivan Šiller, Enikö Ginzery (under ensemble-in-residence-project Ensemble Ricercata), also Marie Jacquot, Marián Lejava, Štefan Sedlický, Konstantin Ilievsky, Miroslava Matisová, Petra Torkošová, Mucha Quartet, DIY Instruments Ensemble and student ensembles studEND.doc, Asynchrónie ensemble, and brass orchestra Universität für Musik und darstellende Kunst Wien.
