A substantial part of Štefan Németh-Šamorínsky’s (1896–1975) output was devoted to children, choirs, and folk ensembles. This aspect of his work was inspired primarily by Slovak and Hungarian folk songs, as well as by the outstanding musical personalities of Béla Bartók and Zoltán Kodály. Alongside his piano music for children, he arranged folk songs for voice and piano and, above all, composed extensively for children's choirs in both Slovak and Hungarian. The Seven Slovak Folk Songs cycle was composed in 1943.
