Disclaimer: This book is written in Slovak.
The book reflects the life and work of Slovak composer Jozef Podprocký, who, after studying at the Conservatory in Košice (I. Koreňová – piano, J. Hatrík – composition), went on to study composition at the Academy of Performing Arts in Bratislava (J. Cikker, A. Moyzes). From 1969 to 2013, he worked as a teacher of composition and music theory at the Košice Conservatory. He is the author of 73 catalogued works for various ensembles.
In addition to biographical details, the reader gradually learns the context in which individual compositions were created, including the composer’s own texts for each opus. The analytical chapter offers a more detailed presentation of his piano, organ, vocal, symphonic, and chamber music. A unique aspect of the publication is the inclusion of memories from Podprocký’s students, colleagues, and performers of his works. The book also contains articles and interviews published in various periodicals, as well as a detailed list of all his compositions.
