František Gregor Emmert
Czech composer and teacher. At the Prague Conservatory he studied piano playing and composition. He continued in the department of composition at JAMU in Brno (Jan Kapr), where he also completed a doctorate (Miloslav Ištvan). In 2006 he was appointed professor. He continued teaching until 2012 at JAMU, where he taught music theory, instrumentation and also composition. His rich production includes symphonies, concertos, oratorios, cantatas, chamber and dramatic works. For his artistic purposes he has made use of biblical and liturgical texts and spiritual poetry. In the field of musical drama he has collaborated with Divadlo Husa na provázku and Mahenova činohra in Brno. Many of Emmert’s compositions have hitherto remained unperformed.
