Serge de Laubier

French musician, composer and musicologist. Studied composition at the Paris Conservatory and also graduated in the field of sound engineering at the École Nationale Louis Lumière. Until 1998 he was responsible for the development of computer technique in the field of musical instruments at GRM (Group for Musical Research) in INA. Currently he is head of research at Studio Puce Muse. He is the inventor of the Octophonic Space Processor and designer of (musical) meta-instruments. He is likewise the author of MIDI Formers software distributed by Opcode System, for which he gained 1st place in the National Competition for Music Softwares at Bourges in 1996. He collaborates with artists such as Daniel Kientzy, György Kurtág, Rémi Dury, Michel Pascal, Joëlle Léandre, Denis Charolles and André Minvielle. In his compositions (operas and instrumental music) he attempts an integration of space and new technologies. Serge de Laubier has won a number of awards, including FAUST d'OR (1992), Grand Prix at the festival of video art at Locarno (1994), 1st Prize at the International Competition in Brouges (1995) and the jury’s special prize at SATIS 2001.
