Ladislav Stanček was a composer and educator who worked mostly in the background, and his work hardly reached broader public awareness. He had a solid background in piano and organ playing, conducting, and composition. He was born in Prievidza into a musically gifted family. He was a versatile composer – he wrote sacred music, songs, works for orchestra, as well as vocal and instrumental pieces. He was perhaps one of the first Slovak composers who initiated and explored the musical setting of Slovak poetry. After retiring, he returned to Prievidza, where he actively supported cultural life, collaborating with the teachers’ choir and a wind band. He also composed for children and youth. An elementary art school in his hometown is named after him – Ladislav Stanček Elementary Art School (ZUŠ Ladislava Stančeka). His style is characterized by meditativeness, romantic harmony, a sensitive relationship to text, as well as respect for folk song and the spiritual dimension.

In 2020, the Music Centre published two sheet music collections titled Songs for Voice and Piano (2020), which document Stanček’s compositional work.
