In his research he focused on questions of music criticism and music terminology and engaged in reflection on Slovak musical compositionss and documentation of Slovak works.
He collaborated with Janko Matuška and Pavol Tonkovič, taking an active part in the foundation of the Folk Art Creativity Group, and prepared numerous radio programmes, many of which became fundamental programmes of their kind, e.g. programmes on East Slovakian folklore.
He compiled Hudobný terminologický slovník (Dictionary of Musical Terminology, 1997), and wrote entries for the lexicon 100 slovenských skladateľov (100 Slovak Composers, 1998). Currently he is working on about 200 entries for the lexicon Osobnosti Slovenska – Umenie – Hudba (Slovak Personalities – Art – Music).
