Simultaneously with the study of music Vlastimil Dufka was developing also his second – the spiritual – life focus, which resulted in the entry into the Society of Jesus. He studied Philosophy and Theology at the Faculty of Theology of Trnava University (1991 – 1998). During the academic year 1993/94 he studied at the College for Recorting Arts in San Francisco (USA). After completing his basic theological studies he specialized in the field of liturgy at the The Pontifical Liturgical Institute in Sant Anselmo, Rome, where he earned a Licentiate (SLL, 2003), and a doctorate in sacred liturgy (SLD, 2007). He teaches liturgy and liturgical music at the Faculty of Theology of Trnava University in Bratislava. He is a member of Universa Laus, the international society for the study of liturgical music and International Jungmann Society for Jesuits and Liturgy.
Vlastimil Dufka is an active oboe player. As a soloist he performed with chamber orchestra ZOE, Slovak Chamber Orchestra and ensemble Musica aeterna.
