The ensemble Cellomania was established in 2000; its founder is Eugen Prochác. Members of the ensemble are leading Slovak cellists, who are actively presented as soloists, chamber players, teachers and organizers of musical events.
The repertoire of the ensemble has a wide range – from Baroque to contemporary music. The repertoire consists of arrangements as well as original compositions for this configuration. The ensemble has premiered several works of Slovak composers (Juraj Beneš, Ilja Zeljenka, Peter Kolman and others). The group cooperated with world known composer Sofia Gubaidulina at the festival Melos Ethos in 2003 and performed several of her compositions. In 2005 the ensemble performed in the world premiere of the octet version of the work Cello Counterpoint by Steve Reich.
Cellomania regularly performs at Slovak music festivals. Among the many foreign performances worth mentioning are the prestigious Cello Festival in Beauvais, France, and performances in Paris, Regensburg, Budapest, Berlin, Salzburg, Ljubljana, and Wroclaw.
