The ensemble Alia Amnis is based in Košice. It was founded during the lockdown period, a time when artists had no opportunity to share their artistic expressions and communicate their creative message with audiences. Behind the poetic name of the ensemble lies the intention to express the uniqueness of its artistic direction, which aims to create a symbiosis despite the individuality of its members (amnis = like a hidden stream deep underground, alias = otherness).
The core of their artistic repertoire is based on 20th- and 21st-century music. Their interpretation makes use of a wide range of sonic possibilities of musical instruments, voice, and spoken word, which, in combination with electronics, creates original, emotionally intense, and at times even exalted soundscapes. In the Eastern Slovak region, this type of ensemble is unique in its focus and in its combination of the human voice with an unconventional instrumental setup.
