Since its establishing in 1960 the Slovak Chamber Orchestra of Bohdan Warchal is one of the most popular ensembles in the field of classical music in our country. Its origin is inherently connected with the name of the unforgettable violinist and artistic director, Prof. Bohdan Warchal (*January, 1st, 1930 – †December, 30th, 2000), who led it for a full 40 years.
The orchestra since its beginning grew attention of concert-goers and critics, and is ranked among renewed ensembles. Under the artistic leadership of Bohdan Warchal the orchestra experienced a golden era, and introduced itself in the most important concert halls and music festivals in Europe, North and South America, Asia, and Australia. It has cooperated with leading world-famous performers. Slovak composers were also inspired by the orchestra’s performance, which resulted into premiere performances of their compositions. The orchestra recorded more than a hundred titles from different musical periods for domestic and foreign music publishers.
The artistic director of the orchestra since January 2001 is Warchal's student Ewald Danel.
