Matej Sloboda

Slovak composer and conductor. Currently he is studying composition at the Academy of Performing Arts in Bratislava (Ivan Buffa) and at the Kunstuniversität in Graz (Beat Furrer). He is active especially in the field of contemporary music. From neo-folklorist beginnings (String Quartet No. 1) his compositional thinking has recast itself in a strikingly expressive style (Orpheus I, Omicron I-IIIa, Bagatelles for Quartet). In 2012 he founded the chamber grouping Ensemble Spectrum, of which he is artistic director and dramaturge. In the same year his choral composition In saecula saeculorum, Vive valeque was issued on a CD by the Slovak Teachers’ Choir. For this composition he received the Jury Prize at the Academic Banská Bystrica Competition.
